choose healing

18.5 x 1.45 x 24.5

This mixed media painting was 1 of 4 canvases damaged from a horribly windy outdoor Asheville event in April 2018. It was my very first outdoor event and I was devastated by the destruction. I decided to move forward and embrace what these damaged pieces were showing me and this is it!

We all have wounds.

Whether they come from our childhood or throughout our lifetime, there are always experiences that add texture to the landscape of our lives.

I made this into a vinyl sticker to remind myself also that healing is a choice. Wounds can become like our superpowers when we CHOOSE healing, and it’s a choice that most often requires work. The act of looking within to see our wounds and identify their triggers is not always comfortable, but it’s important. It takes intentional effort, time and energy to heal, but it’s always possible as long as we believe and perceive it that way.

As the maker, I think this piece begs to question the viewer, “what wounds have you healed and how do you share that medicine with the world?”

Acrylic paint, posca pens, jewely gems, cross stitch thread, glitter and gloss medium texture. Created Dec 2010-Jan 2013 and April 2018.
